Shrubs
Shrubs form the backbone to any garden. The use of shrubs mixed with other garden plants improves the look of both, creating a wonderful natural balance to any garden. The incredible variety of shrubs available together with their tremendous flexibility, has meant that most gardeners tend to ignore their cultivation needs once their latest acquisition has been watered in.
Should you take the time to help encourage these magnificent plants beyond simply 'watering them in' at the outset they will reward your attentions with extra vigour. Particularly if you live in a heavy soil area or one that suffers summer drout. It is in these circumstances, when the tender new roots are up against the elements in their new location that they really apreciate a larger-than-normal hole and regular watering. When they are trying to establish themselves a little often, is far more beneficial than an infrequent torrent that washes away precious nutrients.
