Victorian Portable Greenhouse

Foster and Pearson designed and built a moveable greenhouse. This example shows a moveable orchid house whereby the main structural elements rested upon prepared platforms. Personally speaking, it might have been moveable after great effort but it was never likely to be 'portable'!
The text describes how 'these houses can be removed by any joiner. They can withstand much heavier wind pressure than houses on brick walls, as they rest on bases each 3ft wide, in place of single brick walls.' The house in the picture would have required four brick piers on either side.
